Same Day Dispatch Service For Canvas Prints - Good Customer Service Or Bad Quality Finish?

Canvas prints that are made to order from your own photos are a fantastic feature in any home. They can capture precious memories or special people for a lifetime.

An increasing amount of companies are promoting the fact that they can dispatch your canvas on the same day you order it. Although this may seem like a strong selling point and excellent customer service, it should be considered what steps are being overlooked with this rushed manufacturing process.

In the process of producing a canvas print from your photo there are 5 basic steps which all manufacturers should adhere to in order to produce the perfect canvas print you deserve.

Step 1: Inspection of your image before printing

Every photo received should be carefully inspected and consideration should be given to the following areas:

The image resolution should be checked to ensure it is adequate for the desired canvas size.
The image should be checked to ensure the subject is in focus.
The image size should be checked to ensure that it is compatible with the requested canvas size.
Any blemishes on the image should be removed or rectified. Blemishes may be unseen until the image is enlarged for canvas printing.
Eyes should be inspected and any red-eyes corrected.
Step 2: Manipulation of the image before printing.

Every image needs to be enhanced by specialist software to provide the best results when canvas printing. Most images will also need to be cropped or trimmed to fit the requested size. Cropping may remove important features in the image, so careful consideration should be given to the image as a whole.

Step 3: Inspection of your canvas after printing.

Once a canvas has been printed a thorough inspection should take place. Among the check that should be taken are:

The overall canvas should be checked for small blemishes or marks that may be present. 100% canvas gives the best quality finish, but because it is a natural product small blemishes do occur.
Check that they are no faint or missing areas on the canvas due to blocked or dirty printing heads.
A comparison should be made between the original image and the finished canvas.
Step 4: Ink drying time.

Most canvas prints are produced using large format ink-jet printers. Although the ink may be dry enough to touch within a couple of minutes, it is always advisable to allow 24hrs for the canvas to fully dry before stretching can take place.

Step 5: Hand stretching.

When the canvas is fully dry it should be hand stretched over professionally made stretcher bars. Canvases should always be stretched by hand rather than machine. The framer needs to create an even tightness throughout the whole canvas. While stretching, staples should be used rather than glue, as the canvas can slip on glue and reduce the overall tightness.

As a minimum all canvas
